Welcome to "Hommage Collection", a private collection of art from ancient cultures along the Silk road from the Chinese Dynasties in the east to of the Roman Empire in the west.
This historical and fascinating trade-route has existed for almost 2500 years and laid the foundation for great civilizations along the route, some of them long gone.
This collection consists of more than 300 artifacts. The Chinese collection cover art from the Neolittic period (4000 years BC) and to the end of the Qing Dynasty (19. Century) including a collection of almost 100 snuffbottles from the 18.th and 19.th century.

The collection also contains important artifacts related to Buddhist and Hindu religion from the Gandhara/Kushan Dynasty, India, Cambodia (Khmer), Myanmar (Pagan), Thailand and finally a small collection of Roman Glas from the 1.-2. Century.

The Silk Road was a network of different routes between the eastern and western world for more than 2000 years. From Beijing to Venice it was more than 6500 km! A large number og cities and cultures along the Road were cornerstones for this prosperous trade such as Mosul, Herat, Bukara,Kabul, Taxila, Kashgar, Turfan, and Dunhuang. These are now just shadows of the rich culture that once were there.

From Neolittic to Qing

China has an over 4000 years old continously history of art from the neolithic period 3000 years BC to the end of the Qing Dynasty. This collection contains over 200 items showing some of the highlights and cultural changes through the important chinese dynasties.

Cinese Snuff Bottle Collection

Snuff bottles have fascinated Western and Asian collectors since they were first produced in China in the early part of the 18th century. Conceived as precious containers for ground tobacco imported into China, snuff bottles were initially made for the emperor and the court, and eventually produced in much greater quantities for a public who enjoyed their functionality as well as their display as symbols of status. This collection contains almost 80 unique snuff-bottles.

Ancient Gandharan Art

Gandhara Art, also known as the Graeco-Buddhistic Art, consists of almost exclusively Buddhist sculpture that flourished along the valleys of the Kabul river and it’s tributaries in what is now Afghanistan and northwest Pakistan, as well as along the river Indus and some of it’s tributaries in contemporary India. The Graeco-Roman influence from Alexander the Great (450 BC) on Gandharan Buddhist art is one of many interesting culture exchanges in the art history. This collection represents one of the finest collections of Gandharan Art from 1st - 4th Century AD.

Ancient Art South-East Asia

The Kingdom of Khmer (Kambodia) and Pagan (Myanmar) was cultural highlights that dominated their regions for more that 400-600 years. Both cultures dissapeared during the Middle age, Pagan due to Mongol invasion in the 13th century and the Khmer culture because of climatic changes and internal strife around 15th century. The Khmer culture was completely forgotten and overgrown until the ruins were rediscovered during the 19th Century and impressed archeologist and historians with an overwhelming civilization. This collection has an important collection of artifacts from these dynasties.
