A large schist figure of Buddha, Ancient region of Gandhara 2nd – 3rd century AD

Hight ca 27 cm

A seated Buddha with a big undecorated halo. Hands held in Dhyana/contemplation position. His hear is comprised of multi-strand curling locks which undulate into one another and gather in a tall ushnisha, drawn in at the base and tied with a core.
He has elongated lobes and no jewelry or chains, just wearing a simple garmet that folds nicely around the body and knees.

This beautifully carved sculpture depictures Buddha sitting on a Lotus pedestal in Vajra Mudhra (teaching position). The feet in yoga position with the drapery folded over the shoulder and around the legs is in the manner of classical Greco-Roman style. The hair on the head is piled in a tuft on top, the dot between the eyebrows and the head surrounded by a halo.
The Lotus Flower, also known as a Water Lily, is an important symbol in Buddhist (and Hindu) culture. This special flower rises from dark, muddy waters and blossoms into a gorgeous and alluring flower.
The really unique thing about this flower is the way it blossoms. The core of the flower and the pedals never touch the dirty water it grows in.
As a symbol this represents the human journey of rising above any adverse or unfortunate circumstances and into a self aware and spiritually enlightened human being.

A small peaceful Buddha seated on a lotus pedestal.
The branches or rays seen emanating from the Buddha's halo in various artworks symbolize the divine radiance, spiritual power, and enlightenment of the Buddha. These visual elements are meant to represent the Buddha's illumination, wisdom, and the spreading of his teachings throughout the universe. The halo itself is a universal symbol of sanctity found in many religious traditions, indicating holiness or divine light. In Buddhism, the more elaborate and detailed halos, sometimes with multiple layers or resembling flames, can also signify the levels of spiritual realization and the Buddha's capacity to enlighten others. Each tradition may interpret these symbols slightly differently, but they generally emphasize the Buddha's spiritual authority and the profound impact of his enlightenment.

A nicely carved Buddha with a big undecorated halo. Two followers appearing on his left side. On the pidestal, a pair of worshippers apperantly a male and female and possible the donors of this sculpture, bow and kneel on one knee, hand held in anjali position. Between them, a bowl on fire. Such Buddhist fire altar scenes is similar to the Brahmanical homa rituals and the fire altars in the Zoroastrian culture

A full body sculpture superbly carved standing on a pidestal with two lotus flowers symbolizing the lotus flower growing in the footsteps. Wearing voluminous robes with cascading folds, his left hand lowered, his face in a benign expression with crisply delineated features and elongated earlobes, his hair arranged in fine curls rising over the usnisha.

In this full figure image sculptured in a dark chist, the Buddisattva or the Budda in the future, stands barefooted on a pedestal with his head surounded with a large halo. The missing right hand was probably raised in abbaya mudra position, and the left hand holding his charcteristic water pot.
He is wearing a turban withseries of retaining bandsemanating from a large barel bead. A thick , flowing hear goes down tho his shoulders and his moustasche has a double twist over a indistictly shaped mouth.
A long necklace separated by a large barrel bead in the middle. An amulet thpasses across the body with attached cylindrical amulets. A double armband on the right arm with an amulett picturing a small Buddha. His garmet is folded over his left shoulder and lifted over the right underarm. The pidestal is broken in the front, but has lotus rosettes on the sides that went around the statue.

A grey schist figure of Buddhisatva, Ancient region of Gandhara 2nd – 3rd century AD

Hight 30 cm

This elegantly modeled head of a Budhisattva head is remarkable for its sharply outlined features. The simplicity of his high arching brows, long flatridged nose, the crawling mustache over a well modelled mouth with a sharp cliff at the upper lip.
The eyes are remarkable narrow more like a mongolian style and the turban is fashioned with several cultural elements. In front of the turban is a Buddha sitting on a pedestal with a halo.
